Can This Year Really Be Better?

A better 2026 - Maybe?

"Who you are is defined by what you're willing to struggle for." ~Mark Manson, author of The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck.  I've been thinking a lot about this quote and how we start this year.  Not the goals we write down on Jan 1st that quietly disappear by February.  Not the hustle that makes us feel behind before we've begun.  I'm talking about actually feeling different - not just saying we want to.

Get Clear on What You Want

If we’re honest, feeling better isn’t about changing everything. That just creates chaos. It’s about being real with ourselves about what we’re actually willing to do  - and stop doing - so life feels lighter instead of heavier.

Take a health goal, for example. Are you really willing to give up late-night snacks? Are you really willing to get up early for the gym? Are you really willing to leave work on time to make it to your workout class?

Or a professional goal to stress less. Are you willing to put boundaries in place to leave on time? Are you willing to say no to extra projects? Or are you afraid of what that might do to your image?

Maybe you want a promotion.  Are you willing to focus on the most impactful priorities? Or do you feel too bad saying no to others at work… and at home… and everywhere in between?

The real question is this: What are you truly willing to cut out in order to focus on the thing you say you want?  Or as Mark says, what are you willing to struggle for?

Maybe not total struggle, but discomfort.  Because if you’re not willing to endure the discomfort of change, you’re not setting yourself up for a better year, you’re just setting yourself up for more of the same.

And if that’s what you want, there’s nothing wrong with that. But let’s stop fooling ourselves.

When we say we want something but aren’t willing to do what’s required, all we create is guilt, shame, and unnecessary pressure.

Life is already hard enough. Most of our suffering doesn’t come from other people. It comes from our expectations, our attachments, and our unwillingness to change.

And I get it! Change is hard. That’s why I do what I do!

Change on your own can feel near impossible. But change with the right support, accountability, and systems? That's when your desired change becomes inevitable.
