What Your Calendar Says About You

What Your Calendar Says About You

Show me your calendar...

And I'll show you your priorities.  Honestly - what if I asked to see your calendar? Not your to-do list or what you say matters, but how you actually spend your time each day. Because when you really look at it, your calendar tells the most honest story of your priorities.

Scheduling Your Priorities

We’ve all heard that actions speak louder than words, and this is where that really comes to life. It’s easy to say your health matters, your relationships matter, or that you want more balance. But if those things don’t have a place on your calendar, they’re not truly being prioritized.

I invite you to take a few minutes this week to pause and look at your calendar with fresh eyes. Notice where your time is going, and then zoom out to the bigger picture of your life. Does your schedule reflect what you say you want for your life and career?

Now, to be fair, life moves in seasons. There are times when work needs to take the lead, or when caregiving or a major responsibility requires more of your energy and attention. That’s a conscious choice about what matters most in that moment, and we all run into these times in our lives.

But when those seasons stretch on too long and everything else falls away, that’s when we start to feel it. Our health slips, our relationships lose depth, our career feels haphazard, and life can start to feel a bit hollow despite all the effort we’re putting in. That disconnect is a sign that something needs to shift.

I’ve experienced this personally. When I look at my calendar now compared to a decade ago, it’s completely different. The change didn’t happen overnight, and it certainly wasn’t perfect along the way. It took intention, experimentation, and a willingness to keep adjusting until it felt right.

And it still isn't perfectly balanced.  But if you looked at a month, all of the things I say are important to me have space in my calendar and in my life.

I actively create space for the things that matter to me. Time outside, yoga, moments of connection with friends (even if they are small), time with my boys, travel for work, and space to recharge didn’t just appear. I block this time on my calendar and actually honor it.

I know many of you are thinking that you don’t fully control your calendar, especially in a corporate environment. Meetings, deadlines, and responsibilities are real and often non-negotiable. And still, there is usually more ownership than we initially think.

At the end of the day, YOU are in charge of your life. That means taking responsibility for your calendar, even if it starts with protecting small pockets of time. Those small shifts can create meaningful change over time.

Because saying your family or your well-being matters, but never making time for them, creates a gap. And over time, that gap can lead to stress, frustration, and a sense that something is missing.

Alignment comes from closing the gap between what you say and what you do.

There’s no judgment in this process, only awareness. If work is your top priority right now and your calendar reflects that, then you are in alignment. The goal isn’t to do everything, it’s to be honest about what truly matters in this season of your life.

When your calendar starts to reflect your real priorities, you feel more grounded, more fulfilled, and less overwhelmed. There’s a sense of integrity in how you’re living your life that brings a different kind of ease.

This is the work I do with my clients every day. We define what a successful and fulfilling life and career actually look like, and then translate that vision into how they spend their time. It’s not about overhauling everything, but about making intentional, practical adjustments.

If you’re ready to explore this for yourself, I offer Life Vision Intensives to help you get clear on what you truly want. From there, ongoing coaching can support you in aligning your time and energy with those priorities in a sustainable way.

Schedule a free strategy call HERE and we can decide what works best for you - which may not be coaching at all, and that's ok.

You deserve to enjoy the life you’re working so hard for. And sometimes, it starts with something as simple as taking a closer look at your calendar.

Cheers to prioritizing what you REALLY want,
Sharon
